Why hello there my fellow bloggers! My name is Josh Darling, and i am a junior at Carbondale Community Highschool. As of now, I am taking English 3 with Mrs. Hayes! Obviously, based on the fact that I am introducing myself, this is my first blog. Here is some information on myself. I am 16, and ready to finish up with school, and graduate (even though im only half way through). I enjoy lots of different activities. I love to chill with my friends, play basketball, play guitar, drums, and almost any thing else that has to do with music. I could always go for some late night video gaming,or eating. I play Tenors and Snare on the Carbondale Drumline, and have also played the drum set in the school plays. Thats all of the stuff that i can think of off the top of my head, so lets move on to this blogging stuff.
I am blogging here today because of schoolwide system called Read For a Lifetime. I rented a book called "Half Brother" and quite honestly, I thought, out of what I read, it was extreamely BORING. So, i'm going to pick up a book called "The Boy Who Dared". Its about a German Teenager of about seventeen. He is locked inside a German work/concentration camp, because he was accused of distributing enemy propaganda. The story is told through flashbacks of his life before he was arrested, and how he was accused and sent into the camp. It seems like a much more interesting and intense book. I am looking foreword to it. I think that the fact that it displays a real life situation in WWII will make it much more enticing and easier to appreciate.
I think that over the course of the year, blogging is going to become a big part of our scholastic life when it comes to english. I think that we should try to incorporate as much enjoyment into the prompts as possible. Otherwise its just going to become a nuisance and no one will want to ever update their blogs. Truthfully when I heard that we were starting a blogging assignment, I wasn't all that excited, but i think that if we really try to make each assignment unique, creative, and fun, this assignment will be much easier. I think we should base prompts around comparisons between the real, modern world, and our books. We could also just do prompts about things that we go over in class. But like i said before, we gotta make it interesting and unique. Alright thats all i got for now. See Ya!
In my opinion, you did a fairly well job for your first post. I enjoyed reading it, and at several places it made me laugh some. I also liked how you made the first blog post to be less formal, which gives me an idea of your comfort level while writing these blogs. You also did well in explaining the Read for a Lifetime program that we have at our school. The book that you chose, although it seems to be more of a nonfiction type of book, gave me the feeling that it is a good literary work to read. I would have to agree with your statement that if this project were to not be enjoyable, it would seem as if it is a burden to have to do every week. The ideas that you said are also slightly different from more stereotype topics, and hopefully, they would be quite enjoyable to do if we are given the opportunity to do them. That's pretty much all I have left to say now other than you did a good job.
ReplyDeleteWell Josh, I don't want to be the first to bore you with my blogging, but odds are that I will. I am glad that you have changed your opinion about blogging being boring to, now, hopefully exciting. Your page is unique because it is very artistic - interesting background and font choice. Maybe you want to be a web page designer. Creativity seems to be what motivates you. I am disappointed that you thought "Half Brother" was boring. I was thinking of reading that book because it has a monkey on the cover. A MONKEY MAN!
